Most drivers in Washoe County can renew without an emissions test.

- new motor vehicles on their first 3 registrations
- new hybrid-electric vehicles for the first 5 model years
- 1967 or older vehicles
- motorcycles, mopeds, and most tri-mobiles
- vehicles based in remote areas of Washoe County outside the testing area
- electric vehicles and vehicles that run permanently on propane, compressed natural gas, methane, or butane
- diesel vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 14,001 pounds or greater
- classic vehicles driven 5,000 miles or less per year with the required odometer affidavit
